My Studio

Iris and Dora Designs is a small screen-printing studio on the outskirts of St Peter Port, Guernsey run by me, Denyse McGahy.

Iris and Dora began life in 2012, named after the founders (Denyse McGahy and Diana Rodriguez) daughters who, alongside their younger siblings, have spent quite a bit of their childhood on, under and around the printing table!

Based in Guernsey  Iris and Dora began with a number of art-forms, including needle felting, lino-printing and paper cutting.  As the paper cuts became more and more intricate, ways of reproducing them were needed. Not satisfied with digital reproductions, we decided to have a go at screen-printing.

Many, many, many hours later, I now considers myself to be a proficient self-taught screen-printer (thank you Youtube posters, and thank you Steve Woods, ink supplier and font of all screen-print-related knowledge!).

I am concerned with the impact of my work and so I use environmentally-friendly water-based inks exclusively. I aim to use recycled paper products, organic textiles, and local suppliers wherever possible. I am excited to be working with a network of talented Guernsey-based artists and artisans including a sailmaker who makes my sailcloth bags, a seamstress who sews beautiful French seams into my cushions, and a Guernsey greenhouse repairman who sources the beautiful weathered wood for my block prints.

I can be found at the studio from 10am to 4pm on Monday, Friday and Saturdays and from 10am until 1pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.  I also have a small shop where as well as my work you can find some beautiful vintage furniture by a local collective of furniture restorers who go by the name of Painted Donkey and work by many other locally based artists and makers.

Work by Iris and Dora is owned by many private collectors and has been in Exhibitions locally at the Gatehouse Gallery, The Greenhouse (as part of a group exhibition) and as part of the Skipton Art Festival. In 2014 Iris and Dora provided the artwork for the British Irish Conference Summit which was held in the island.
